Okay let’s be real, if you’re here, it’s because you’re getting married, and you’re finding yourself with a lot of free time to plan your wedding because of COVID-19. We’ve begun to relish in everything good that comes along with quarantining: quality time together, saving money cooking through our cookbook collection & working on all the DIY crafts, projects & personal to-dos we never dreamed of having time for!
While some wedding planning to-dos may be out of the question there are so many great wedding planning tasks you can check off your to-do list while at home in quarantine. We have 8 tips you both can work on together during this downtime…
Organize Yourself
If you’re newly engaged, then a virtual wedding planning app is a great place to start. There are loads of wonderful tools available on the app stores, with features such as check lists, timelines and budget planners.
Gather Inspiration
Whether you’re looking for general inspiration (colors, themes, etc.) or something more specific (for example, creative escort card ideas), you’ll find a wealth of images and information online. Look for wedding blogs that align with your wedding style or area. Pinterest is a must-have resource for finding and saving images you like. It’s also a good way of working collaboratively with your key vendors (for example, your wedding planner and florist). You’ll be able to share ideas by pinning to a single (secret) board, allowing you to ensure everyone is on the same page from a design perspective.
Visit Venues
Did you know you can search for – and even tour – potential venues from the comfort of your sofa? There are multiple venue directories, including sites dedicated to the venue hunt, like The Venue Report and Wedding Spot. Real weddings on wedding blogs are another great place to look. Contact the venues for additional information, including image galleries, floor plans, and videos. Some even offer virtual tours on their websites.
Connect with Vendors
Wedding directories and real weddings are other good places to look for vendors, as is Instagram. Make notes of the ones you like, and then check out their websites and social media profiles. If it seems like they may be a good fit, get in touch. Many vendors will happily ‘meet’ you over Skype or Zoom when a physical meeting can’t take place. And if you have a wedding planner, of course ask them! Their knowledge base and little black book of creative partners can usually be trusted.
Wedding Registry
Time at home is a great excuse for some virtual shopping in the form of your wedding registry! And it couldn’t be easier to do online. Whether you choose store-specific registries (for example, Crate and Barrel or Macy’s) or a registry service like Zola, everything is easy to set up digitally. (No need to walk around a store scanning china!) You can even use the Wishlist facility on Amazon.
Wedding Website
For modern weddings, a dedicated website is a must! It’s such a great way to keep your guests informed of all the details, from venue and accommodations to dress code. There are many services available, and some will also let you send out digital save the dates and other updates (like a postponement is needed).
Guest List Management
A wedding website is also a big help in managing your guest list, especially once RSVPs start rolling in. There are also guest list tracking tools available.
2021 Couples
Next year feels like an eternity away—and it is! If you are getting married in 2021, continue to book your high priority vendors like your venue, planner, photographer, DJ, catering, and florals. The 2020 postponements mean that fewer 2021 weekends are going to be available—waiting to book may leave you to find that a vendor on your ‘must-have’ list is no longer available.
Ready to go? Then grab your phone or laptop, and get virtual wedding planning!
